Lisa Said Party, So We Partied

How Norco High’s Class of ’93 Reunion Was Born

Part 1 of a 4-Part Series by Sage Vibes Events

There’s something about planning your 30-year high school reunion that brings up all kinds of emotions. Not just the nervous energy of seeing old classmates—but the weight of memories, milestones, and a sincere desire to reconnect.

And for Norco High’s Class of 1993, it all started with one small (but very persistent) question:

“So… what are we doing for our reunion?”

The question came from Lisa, and once she asked, she didn’t stop. She didn’t nag—Lisa’s not that type. She gently poked, nudged, and made it very clear: this was our responsibility as a class. And if Lisa wanted a party, Lisa was going to get one. Period.

The ASB President Steps Back In

Technically, our class president is the one who traditionally plans the reunion—but they had other obligations. As fate would have it, I was the ASB President in 1993, so I was next in line. Lisa knew it. I knew it. And after a couple of lovingly persistent prods, I said “yes.”

Truth is, I couldn’t say no to Lisa. She’s gold through and through—a woman who gives effortlessly, supports endlessly, and shows up for people without fail. If she was ready to party, I wasn’t going to be the reason it didn’t happen.

The Dream Team Behind the Screens

Our core planning group: Lisa, Keli, Jimmy, and me—connected in a never-ending group text, full of ideas, screenshots, polls, and planning moments. And our honorary fifth team member? Joel. He recruited, followed up, confirmed guests, and even secured the American Legion at a discounted rate. The team came through, again and again.

Lisa’s Gold Touch

Lisa didn’t just ask for a reunion—she helped create it from scratch. She assembled a three-tier dessert table that wowed everyone—and still had enough to send some home. She even baked gluten-free options to make sure everyone had a treat.

And her husband Tom? He crafted the entire photo booth backdrop by hand, working into the night and making sure it all looked perfect. Their efforts made the night feel magical.

From 20 RSVPs to 100+

By August 2023, we had less than 20 confirmed guests. Our goal? 100. We knew we had work to do. Many classmates preferred not to use Venmo or digital payments. So we brought back a hometown solution:

  • Two Cash Nights at a local Norco hotspot
  • Line dancing and memories, thanks to Keli

Then came the magic move: we posted everyone’s senior yearbook photo as they confirmed. And just like that, the RSVPs started pouring in.

Slideshow & Memorials

I digitized the yearbook and curated a slideshow with 770+ images. We honored our 16 lost classmates with their own slides and heartfelt memories. It wasn’t just nostalgia—it was emotional, grounding, and beautiful.

When Your Husband is Not Just a DJ…

When I asked my husband Jim to handle music, I imagined a simple playlist. But Jim used to run a professional DJ business in his 20s. So instead of a playlist, we got:

  • Pro audio setup
  • Lighting design
  • Ambience candles and stage presence

And just like that, Sage Vibes Events was born. The reunion became the launchpad for something bigger.

This Was Just the Beginning…

Lisa’s question started it all—but the love, teamwork, and community brought it to life. It was chaotic, hilarious, touching, and absolutely unforgettable. And this is just Part 1.

Coming in Part 2: The 45-Minute Miracle

  • My kids, Drake and Ollie, jumping in
  • Traffic jams and taco caterers hauling audio gear
  • How we pulled off a full setup in 45 minutes flat

Thanks for being part of the journey. And to future planners out there—if Lisa ever asks you to help throw a party?

Just say yes. 💫
